Sixth Sense by Miun is part of the 7 Digital Originals project, which features a collaboration between Leica and seven handcraft artists selected globally. This project focuses on the value of traditional handcrafts and dissolves the boundaries between digital and analog. One question it poses – is it possible to transfer modern digital photography into exceptional analog pieces crafted with traditional techniques?
Each artist received a new Leica T Camera System, to experiment with and document the creative work in their workshops. They transferred the digital pictures into real life pieces using their craft and created a unique fusion of digital and analog techniques emphasizing the value of tangible photography.
“Mixing media like drawing, painting, sewing and photography is a huge part of my identity and the result of a long journey of experimentation… If people ask me whether I consider myself an artist or a craftswoman, I always tell them that I plan my work as an artist and execute it as a craftswoman,” Miun expresses.
Representing the local scene is Miun, an analog photography aficionado and an experimental crafter. Her exhibition – Sixth Sense – showcases the transformation of two-dimensional digital images captured with the new Leica T Camera System, to three-dimensional art boxes. A birth from the five senses, the boxes will entrap you with an eccentric view through her sixth sense.
The exhibition included a series of step-by-step process. Light was used to enhance the incoherent relation between the 2D images and 3D boxes, manifesting the infinite possibilities of how a single material and subject can be interpreted in the artist’s unique mind.
A masterpiece of craftsmanship, the Leica T Camera System was released in April 2014 and plays a special role in this crafty collaboration. Not only do the artists document their crafts with this high quality camera system but a very small amount will also be available as a special edition via 7digitaloriginals.com. Customers buying their Leica T via this website will receive a service voucher by an artisan of their choice. They will receive a unique piece of artisan craftwork made of their own pictures by the chosen artisan as listed on the website.
