Collections designed specifically for ladies can be tacky. While some brands think it’s easy to just slap on jewels and about 50 shades of pink onto their products, Skullcandy does it differently. With collections that are largely designed for the unisex, Skullcandy’s women’s range introduces products with reimagined acoustics, engineering and design.
The collection comes in three different styles: the Knockout, an over-ear low profile headphone, the Bombsell, an in-ear Fix technology bud, and the Dime, an in-ear bud. Aesthetics wise, it features three colour-ways, a Skullcandy-original floral pattern, crisp robin blue, and a not-so-basic black featuring studs, quilted faux leather, and geometric details.
The floral pattern was inspired by Skullcandy’s badass female athletes, professional surfer Leila Hurst and professional snowboarder Kimmy Fasani. The label picked out flowers that grow in both Leila and Kimmy’s hometown and then toughened the design up with triumph motorcycles and vintage trucks. The result is a beautiful representation of what it’s like to be a cool chick!
Aesthetics aside, it has also been taken into consideration that men and women hear things differently. Did you know women are more sensitive to higher frequencies? After testing out sound preferences, Skullcandy included the most preferred one into each headphone in the Women’s line. This included adjusting the driver to produce deeper cleaner bass and very natural sounding vocals that women preferred.
Another factor important to the Women’s line was the possible buildup of makeup or beauty products (and ear wax, eek!). To counter these issues, Skullcandy partnered with an industry leading clean technology to put additives into the silicone ear gels and ear pads, keeping them free from everyday dirt and grime. By mixing the right additives into the base material, Skullcandy put the sanitary power back into the ladies’ hands for the life of their ear gels and ear pads.
