Last month, we were graced with two major astronomical phenomena; a lunar eclipse and a partial solar eclipse. In July, look up to the night sky and be dazzled by Comet NEOWISE soaring through the cosmic night.
The comet, named after the telescope that first identified it on 27 March 2020, will be visible to the naked eye after sunset from 20 July – 31 July 2020. Thereafter, see the bright ball through a telescope all throughout August. It is best viewed around 8.05 – 8.20pm local time! For reference, click here.
The comet’s orbital period is 6,766 years, which means if you don’t take this opportunity now, you will have to wait for another 6,766 years for it to pass by the Earth again! A comet is a frozen space body that, when it is in close proximity with the Sun, it starts to melt – giving rise to its bright tail.
Don’t miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to view the lightshow yourself!
