Ever the strong advocate towards the arts, artisan streetwear label, Staple Design® will unveil its full Spring/Summer 2012 (refer to ANNEX A for highlights from the season) collection for the first time in Singapore with a thought – provoking twist – this in line with graffiti artist Kongo’s return to Singapore for a one ‐ off exhibition entitled, ‘From Paris With Love’, presented at Dominic Khoo’s 28th Février.
Theology takes centre stage for Spring/Summer 2012 as Staple Design takes on an uncanny approach to that notion of study – by adding a touch of pop artistry, thus raising a new level of awareness to the increasing mergence of streetwear and urban art, creating more than just clothes for wear, but one with meaning.
Using Kongo’s (one‐off exhibition at Dominic Khoo’s 28th Février) ‘From Paris With Love’ as an appropriate backdrop to unveil Delivery 1 of the Spring/Summer 2012 range, Staple Design® will also debut its all‐new STAPLE t-shirt design. Incorporating an updated classic fit, coupled with side seam construction and a double reinforced back neck yoke, the t‐shirt marks a new standard and direction in the streetwear t-shirt design – one of a more streamlined fit along with an artisan feel, that comes completely packaged in a custom STAPLE zip-lock bag.
More than just the showcasing of STAPLE’s Spring/Summer collection consisting of also its classic snap backs, Staple Design® Singapore will also feature, the limited edition Good Wood x STAPLE Pigeon Pin. Already a collector’s item the pin will feature STAPLE’s iconic pigeon in a specially crafted piece of wood from the people at Good Wood NYC, makers of art-engraved wooden accessories.
As part of Kongo’s personal mission to bring new light to the often-misunderstood art form that is graffiti in Singapore, he along with noted urban artists in Singapore will further delve into the local psyche of graffiti art, at the same time will attempt to debunk the idea of graffiti as ‘vandalism’ here.
Honoring his last visit to Singapore, wherein he made it a point to return upon local shores to challenge the way local media thinks of graffiti art, this also by way of his one- off exhibition at Dominic Khoo’s 28th Fevrier, presenting a series of his art pieces inspired by his homeland Paris. His brand of artwork was most recently utilized largely by French atelier Hermès in a series of scarves, at the same time Kongo himself lent his skilled hands, in a specially commissioned job, to decorate the hoarding supporting the front of the high-end fashion label’s store in Singapore – the only Hermès store in word to do so.
Staple Spring/Summer’12 Showcase @ Kongo’s From Paris With Love will be happening on 15-17 April 2012 (10am-10pm) at 28th Février, 5 Jalan Kilang, Singapore 159405
