Swank looked to the raven as an inspiration for its Fall/Winter 2013 collection, titled “Vi”. Widely known as a messenger between life and death, this black winged creature has played the lead in numerous legends and myths. And as legend tells, the raven’s feathers turned black from sorrow, bearing a heavy heart as it witnessed a loved one dived into the valley of death. Yet, it remained still like a lover who love with all its might even as its love was deemed unworthy and neglected.
“When those you love deeply reject you, leave you, or die, your heart will be broken. But that should not hold you back from loving deeply. The pain that comes from deep love makes your love ever more fruitful.” – Henri Nouwen
With this story, Swank welcomes the “Vi” collection that displays an array of warmer looks while being made to be comfortable for wear on a daily basis with its special cotton fabric used widely throughout the entire collection. Black and white remained as the core colour scheme, while blue and grey were added to symbolise the transition from life to death.
The silhouettes of raven were carefully hand-embroidered onto jumpers and custom made blazer. Fabric such as faux fox fur was used to create a different feel.
