It was only natural that local barber crew Heist rang up the devoted letterpress folks at The Gentlemen’s Press to conspire on crafting a men’s grooming kit dubbed The Anatomy of a Gentleman.
A dissection of this ‘anatomy’ reveals the core of this collaboration – a mutual love and respect for quality products and craftsmanship. Essentially, this is what both Heist and The Gentlemen’s Press were established upon.
An exceptional product of heart and sweat, The Anatomy of a Gentleman comprises a hair pomade, an aftershave cologne and a pocket comb housed in a hand-crafted wooden box. It took three long months of trial and error, endless sawing, nailing, sanding, designing, letterpressing and fussing over the little details that count. Such manual labour is what keeps the craft genuine and refreshing.

The use of pomade can be traced as far back as the 1800s. During that century, the most common item used was bear fat. In the early 20th century, other ingredients such as petroleum jelly, beeswax and lard had replaced the bear fat.
