Scars and stitches, the green tint on his skin, and the grim look on his face – it’s Frankenstein. Whether or not you’ve read the Mary Shelly classic, Frankenstein is a grotesque creature we’ve all come to know. However, what does Frankenstein represent? The relationship between a parent and child, or a symbol for the outcast?Whatever your interpretation, it can be agreed on that we all view Frankenstein slightly differently from the next person. This weekend, 23 August to 24 August 2014, you’ll be exposed to the interpretations of several artists around the world. As part of the upcoming inaugural Creatory Vol. 1 – Local is Lovely, a creative festival that will take place in a multi-level warehouse space on MacTaggart Road, Kult presents The Frankenstein Freak Show.
The exhibition will showcase Frankenstein inspired portraits created by 24 cutting-edge artists from various countries. From the minimalist to the grotesque, these larger than life portraits will be showcased in a truly new exhibition format. These artists include Andy Yang, Buro Uhfo, Eeshaun, and Djohan Hanapi from Singapore, Ben Frost from Australia, Ryan Adyputra from Indonesia, Warhead from Thailand, and Mysteriousal from United Kingdom.
The experience will include a collaboration with IMAGINARTS, who will be building a massive Frankendoll in the space, and a technologically savvy collaboration between an artist and a 3D printing studio. The aim is to bring one of the Frankenstein art pieces to life. A pop-up bar concept will be hosted by Potato Head Folk’s Studio 1939, who will be featuring two unique cocktails.
Tickets for The Frankenstein Freak Show is available at Creatory. Creatory runs from Saturday, 23 August 2014 (11am) to Sunday, 24 August 2014 (10pm) at 37 MacTaggart Rd.
