The urban farming movement is taken to new heights with The Growell Pop Up, an initiative spearheaded by Edible Garden City. As advocators of growing your own food, Edible Garden City is dedicating their space in Little India towards showcasing homegrown innovations, farming initiatives, and collaborations. Here are some highlights to look out for:
Retail & Cafe Space
Commencing operations on 14 February 2015, those looking forward to grow their own food can seek inspiration and handy tools that will be on sale at The Growell Pop Up. Get basic tools suitable for budding urban farmers and artisanal food products like urban-foraged honey while you munch fresh local produce and freshly brewed coffee.
Urban Farming Pop Up School
As a continuation from Nong by Edible Gardens City (a previous pop up by the group), interested participants will get down and dirty with practical farming techniques, taught by farmers from Edible Gardens City. Some valuable skills that will be taught include testing soil levels and cooking with your own produce. Sessions are held weekend mornings from 9 to 11am, and will run from 21 February to 29 March.
Thursday Talking Crop Sessions
Want to know more about the movement? Hear speakers from the local farming scene talk about their experience and projects, and have your questions answered by these experts. These intimate, small talks will be held in the second storey of the Rowell shophouse, and includes a series of curated artworks by community partners like Ore Huiying who has recently concluded the We Are Farmers exhibition at Objectifs. Talking Crop Sessions will take place from 19 February, culminating in a weekend of Talking Crop Sessions on 3 and 4 April.
