New local start-up The Mindful Company is on a unique social mission to inspire and encourage individuals to live mindfully through thoughtfully designed products and informative workshops. Head honcho Ciara Yeo, a former lawyer and investment banker, founded this initiative in response to a distracted and overwhelming world. Practising mindfulness has helped calm her busy and stressed-out mind.
“Mindfulness is a powerful, secular technique to investigate the mind and develop calmness, emotional stability and mental clarity. Its benefits are backed by research, and it could be deeply relevant in our daily lives – if only we had some guidance on where to start, and an occasional reminder to stay on track,” said Ciara. “I benefited from friends and mentors who helped me along my journey – through The Mindful Company I want to do the same for others.”
Its key weapon used for inspiring is the Reminder Band that is designed to remind individuals to be mindful. Each Reminder Band has a small message inscribed for its wearer. There are eight phrases to choose from: Breathe, Let Go, Live in the Moment, Be Present, Gratitude, Be Still, Be Kind, and a limited edition Singaporean phrase, Can.
“It is often difficult to remember to be mindful when confronted by everyday situations. So we created the Reminder Band to act as a simple, beautiful reminder that we can wear every day,” said Ciara.
Available in Classic for women and Matte Silver for men, the bands are durable, comfortable, and beautiful; to be worn every day, alone or stacked with other jewellery. The full collection of Reminder Bands can be purchased through The Mindful Company’s website.
In addition to releasing more Reminder Bands with fresh messages, The Mindful Company is committed to creating new meaningful products and providing mindfulness workshops over the coming year, in hopes to change the way people look at life.
Anyone can learn to be mindful. Mindfulness begins with paying attention to what’s going on in our mind at any moment, without getting carried away by it. This means objectively observing our thoughts, emotions and actions, so we can then choose how to respond.
“The first part of mindfulness is learning to notice and appreciate each moment, even the mundane, ordinary ones, such as commuting to work or brushing your teeth. The second, is realising that we can’t change many of the things that happen in life, but we can change the way we experience and respond to them,” said Ciara. “By being mindful, we may appreciate life just that little bit more.”
