It’s not only the dream place for style mavens wishing to get a pair of the widely popular sustainable plastic footwear, the Melissa Galeria is also now home to a non-traditional art installation by SOFTlab.
Shop and take in the artistry of the design studio, whose fixture is suspended from the ceiling and spanning the entire length of the store. Inspired by Melissa’s theme for Spring Summer 2014: “We Are Flowers” , the installation is a breathtaking collection of thousands of translucent, multi-coloured, abstract 3D “petals” that echo the collection’s botanical muse.
The hanging garden was made possible by the collective effort of SOFTlab’s unique blend of backgrounds as designers, artists, architects and educators. Combine these fresh perspectives with an exploration of technology and craft, and you’ll get a rich spatial, graphic, interactive and visual experience.
The delicate nature of the We Are Flowers collection by Melissa is brought to life when admired alongside this artwork. The collection likens women to flowers; each woman is completely unique – a mixture of femininity, sensuality and joyful colours not ever to be repeated. The Melissa collection is divided into four moods for the season including the romantically inspired Hyperbotanic with its touch of retro, the kitschy Technokitsch with its hype prints and bold combinations, the smart mix of 90s throwbacks with futuristic streetwear in Urban Bloom, and Flower Lab, a laboratory of textures and transparences, where new technologies and botanical influences meet.
