Celebrating 50 years of National Service, So Drama! Entertainment has released a tribute album saluting the contributions of all national servicemen past and present, distributed exclusively by Warner Music Singapore.
Titled We’ll Carry On (The NS50 Album), the album is a collection of seven original songs performed by members of the Singapore Armed Forces Music and Drama Company (MDC), as well as some of its illustrious alumni such as Sing! China runner-up NATHAN HARTONO, Singapore Idol Season 3 winner SEZAIRI, and local hip-hop artiste SHIGGA SHAY.
DEFENCE MINISTER DR. NG ENG HEN will also be making a guest contribution to a special recording of the song “WE ARE THE PEOPLE”. The song will be performed by Nathan Hartono and the MDC’s very own vocal group, Camokakis.
Mr Loh Aik Khoon, MDC, said: “Music has always been a part of NS, from the songs we sing on route marches to the military band performances at parades, as well as MDC productions for our national servicemen in camp. This being the 50th year of NS, we wanted to commemorate the milestone year in our own unique way. Each artiste featured here contributed significantly to the diverse musical perspectives in the album. Through this album, we hope to connect to the older and younger generations alike on their NS experiences and what NS means to them. The message we wish to send is about how NS is close to the Singaporean way of life, and we also want to show our respect to all past and present national servicemen, as well as their family and loved ones for their commitment to national defence.”
LCP Dominic Chin, who wrote the song ‘We’ll Carry On’, said: “I was inspired by the many generations of national servicemen over the past five decades, who have served our country with pride and dedication during their NS. Through the song, I wanted to convey that our future generations of national servicemen will continue to bring that same spirit of service to national defence, and that the institution is vital to Singapore’s continued peace and prosperity.”
