YUNGBLUD is a force to be reckoned with. Since his introduction to the world all those years ago, he rose to stardom with his unapologetic-themed pop-rock anthems and eccentric antics. Fresh from the ride of his EP The Underrated Youth released last year, YUNGBLUD aka Dominic Harrison from Doncaster, England is ready for a new era.
The latest single ‘Weird!’ was released with the announcement of “the optimistic era of YUNGBLUD”, said Harrison. He continues “When I first started my career, I was so angry because the world I grew up around didn’t want to know me, didn’t want to accept me, didn’t want me to belong in it. So, I almost figured out I had to build a world to myself. I realised after this whole process of meeting these people [the fans], how could I be angry?”
Writing the track during a ‘weird’ time in his life, it was planned to be released on a later date, but due to the ongoing situation where everyone is in a weird point of life, it seems fitting to release it now, and thankfully he did! The track is undoubtfully a masterpiece of rock n’ roll optimism the world needs right now.
With vivid colours, trippy visuals and lots of dancing, the music video was shot in quarantine with his best mates in an Airbnb in Los Angeles. It was made “for a 100 quid, we shot on an iPhone, we bought an iPhone mount and a statue of Jesus, and then throw in a little bit of rock n’ roll energy and there we go!” exclaimed Harrison excitedly.
Aiming to connect with the Black Hearts Club (his fanbase) during this pandemic, he has set up “a rock n’ roll SNL” series called ‘The YUNGBLUD Show’ with special guest appearances. He has also teamed up with YouTube to create ‘Stay Home With: YUNGBLUD’, an intimate look at his life in quarantine. If you were bummed about the cancellation of his show in Singapore earlier this year, anticipate new dates once all this is over because YUNGBLUD will perform in the Lion City and he is excited to meet you all.
